Wax melts: how much, how long, which kind

Our warmers ship without wax on purpose: scent is personal, and any standard wax melt fits the dish. Here is what helps to know before your first clamshell.

How much to use

One or two cubes is the right load for the plug-in dish; the tabletop dish takes two or three. More wax does not mean more scent, it just means a deeper pool that takes longer to warm through.

How long a cube lasts

A cube typically gives off scent for a handful of evenings of use before it goes quiet. The wax itself does not disappear; the fragrance oil in it does. When a warm dish smells of nothing, the wax is done even though it looks fine.

Choosing scents

Softer scents suit the small plug-in dish and small rooms; bolder ones earn their keep in the tabletop. Seasonal wax next to a seasonal shade is a small joy we refuse to apologize for.

Storing the stash

Keep unused melts closed and away from sunlight and warm windowsills. Wax that has half-melted in storage still works, but scents stored open lose their edge before they ever meet the warmer.

Swapping without mess

Let the dish cool until the wax hardens, press one edge of the disc, and it pops out whole. The full routine, including the wipe-down, lives in the cleaning guide.
